The Truth About Health Insurance

By Wall Street Journal | Wednesday, August 12, 2009

The White House is priming the defibrillator paddles to revive ObamaCare, and its new strategy is to talk about "health-insurance reform," rather than "health-care reform." The point is to make its proposals seem less radical than they are, while portraying private insurers as villains for supposedly denying coverage to the sick.

Sounds like a good time to explain a few facts about the modern insurance market. Start with the reality that nine out of 10 people under 65 are covered by their employers, most of which cover all employees and charge everyone the same rate. States Gear Up For Fight Against Health Reform Mandates

By JULIAN PECQUET |Wednesday, August 12, 2009

The new study suggests patients who already have colon cancer may benefit from taking aspirin along with surgery and chemotherapy. In a separate analysis of a subgroup of patients, only those with the most common type of tumor, those that overproduce the Cox-2 enzyme, saw a benefit. Click here to continue reading this article.

Diet and Exercise Protect Brain and Patterns:

By MEGAN JOHNSON, U.S. News and World Report | Wednesday, August 12, 2009

Exercise, along with a Mediterranean-style diet full of fruits and veggies, could help stave off cognitive decline, according to new research published today in the Journal of the American Medical Association. Researchers tracked the exercise and eating habits of 1,880 adults between 1992 and 2006, noting how strictly participants stuck to a Mediterranean diet and exercise routine. People who closely followed the diet reduced their risk of developing Alzheimer's disease by 40 percent, and those who exercised most reduced their risk by 33 percent, compared to adults who didn't follow the diet or who did not exercise, the Wall Street Journal reports. In a study released earlier this year, the same team found the Mediterranean diet alone lowered the risk of Alzheimer's.Click here to read the full story.
